The Sky 6 Pro - CCDSoft 5 link inoperable on replacement observatory computer

$

The Win XP desktop died after 10 years out in the observatory.  Replaced it with a newer good condition Win 7 machine on which The Sky 6 Pro and CCDSoft 5 are setup and running.  The Sky 6 Pro links just fine to the serial output on my Meade LX200 GPS, and the curser on the Sky's presentation screen moves with the scope as the scope is slewed.

I'm running CCDSoft 5 to control an ST8-XME and that part's running OK as well.  The problem is that the declination is not automatically set when guiding (and yes, I connect the Sky to the scope before doing a camera guide routine calibration).  Also coordinates are not being fed to the .fits images making astrometry a bit more tedious.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Hello,

I purchased a copy  of TheSkyX Professional from a user who has upgraded to the full Paramount software suite and does not need the separate copy of the TheSkyX Professional any longer. I understand that he needs to transfer the license to me and I was wondering if you could let me know how to proceed.

I look forward to getting acquainted with TheSkyX!

Best,

Luca

We are planning to upgrade TheSky in our department's student observatory.
Seems the old version his has already been registered by others, but the guy who did that has left.
Do you know if I can simply buy TheSkyX Pro Upgrade online? Just
want to make sure it will work before I make the purchase.

Also, we are looking for multiple copies of student edition to install in the
computer lab for the students to practice. How much is a site license? we are
thinking about 3-5 PCs.

Slaving LX600 to PD10 Dome

$

I could use some help to determine if TheSkyX pro edition would be a good choice to operate my meade 16in LX600 along with a Technical Innovations PD10 dome, and how it would work.

Up to this point I have been using Meade Autostar remote hbx feature that connects to the computer via com port.  Via the remote hbx, I can operate autofocus, Starlock etc so enjoy the simplicity of this.

The PD10 uses DDW software that controls the dome operations and connects to the telescope via the Ascom platform and DDW driver and Meade Universal Driver.

My problem is that I am not able to have both connected via the com port at the same time.  I am not sure if Autostar software has a configuration whereby it can both write the data out to the ASCOM platform along with directing the scope.

Would the SkyX be a good solution, and if so what are the basics of how it would work?

thank you

Ian

Questions Regarding the Software Bisque Taurus 600 Mount

Dear Software Bisque manager,

I have a couple of questions related to the Software Bisque’s Taurus 600 mount:

1.   Is the overall load weight capacity 180 kg, as advertised?

2.   What is the distance / length between the fork arms, at the location where the telescope is attached?

I would appreciate if you could guide me to a Web page where the detailed specifications of the Taurus 600 mount are presented.

Many thanks for addressing these questions!

Best regards,

New MX+ Will not execute Home Command

Heres the out of the box setup (mount received brand new from Woodland Hiills)::

Windows PC (probably the first issue - though I have tried two different ones)

WiSky card immediately installed

Initiall attempt via USB connection between laptop(s) and mount

Rear LED's show - Blue (for the Wisky), Purplish for LED #1 on left, Red (solid) for DEC, Red (blinking) for RA

Mount selected (MX+) , Comm Port selected after loading current MKS5000 driver

Hit
Connect - shows (initially) connected via USB

Upon trying to execute Home after about 20 seconds it either returns a reponse that mount cannot slew or that communications failure).

I have confirmed that both the RA and Dec knobs are rotated to the STAR figure and appear to be engaging the worm gears.

The mount, immediately upon power up and continously there after emits a low volume repetative (i.e. 2-3 time per second) on/off hum sound...

Also tried to connect my windows lap top via WiSky but getting hung up on IP config (the instructions int he manual dont seem to accurately reflect current iteration of Windows 10.

bottom line - could use an assist if there is anybody out there to talk me through things and confirm there isnt an issue with the mount itself. A bit distressing after spending a bunch of $$$ for this mount.

1250 - UNLINKING SKY CHART FROM TELESCOPE CROSS HAIRS

Software Bisque Knowledge Base Article - 1250

UNLINKING SKY CHART FROM TELESCOPE CROSS HAIRS

ISSUE

When connected to a telescope mount, TheSkyX's Sky Chart cannot seem to be pointed away from the telescope's current position. For instance, using the Orientation> Look commands (e.g. Look South) briefly changes the Sky Chart, but then it immediately returns to where the telescope is pointed.

RESOLUTION

By default, TheSkyX will keep the telescope cross hairs centered on the Sky Chart. This behavior can be changed using the following procedure:

  1. Choose Telescope> Telescope Setup to open the Imaging System Setup window. (This can also be opened by clicking the Display> Telescope window's Mount Setup button.)
  2. The Mount item should be selected in the Hardware Selection section at the left, so the right-hand portion of the window contains settings and preferences related to the mount.
  3. Look for the "Always keep telescope crosshairs visible on Sky Chart" setting, which is likely presently set to "Yes" or "Yes, centered".
  4. Set this to "No", then close the Imaging System Setup window.

You should now be able to position the Sky Chart on any object or position desired, whilst connected to the mount. To return the Sky Chart to the mount's position, use the Center Cross Hairs button on the Display> Telescope window.

Suspend Connection Button (TheSkyX Professional Edition Only)

If you'd prefer the Sky Chart to be centered on, or contain, the telescope cross hairs at most times, yet occasionally be able to position it elsewhere, then you may want to add a Suspend Connection button to a toolbar. (Customizing toolbars is described in the Toolbars section of the user guide.)

NOTE: This procedure requires TheSkyX Professional Edition

    1. In TheSkyX, press Ctrl+, (hold down the control key and then tap the comma key) or from the Edit menu (TheSkyX menu on Mac, Tools menu prior to version 10.5.0) choose the Preferences command.
    2. On the Preferences window's Toolbars tab, click the Customize button (near the bottom of the window).
    3. Select a toolbar from the Toolbars list at upper-right of the window (the Telescope Toolbar is a logical candidate), or add a New one, if desired.
    4. Click anywhere within the Actions section on the left-hand side of the window, and then begin typing "suspend" to quickly locate the Suspend Button action.
    5. With the Suspend Button action highlighted, click the green —> (right arrow) button to add this to the selected toolbar.
    6. Use the green up and down buttons to move the action within the toolbar, if desired.
    7. Click the OK button to close the Customize Toolbar window, and then Close the Preferences window.

You should now have a Suspend Connection button on the chosen toolbar (you may also need to turn the toolbar on, which can be done from the context menu by right-clicking on either a currently visible toolbar, or the top-level menu region of TheSkyX's window).

This is a toggle button: when selected, communications with the mount will be suspended; when deselected, communications will resume.

I have a registered copy of Sky X. I am having problems connecting with my Takahashi EM200 mount and it has been suggested I try using Sky 6 to connect. Do I need a separate licence to download Sky 6. The Sky X connection has worked successfully but has now failed. I am trying to eliminate all software as the cause of the problem. I have tried connecting directly to SkyX via the Temma driver and also via Ascom but both ways have been unsuccessful.

    Hi,

Can you nudge the SB web site to let me renew this?  It presently only offers the choice to 'cancel'.

    Thanks,  Mike

ME/MEII/MX PYRAMID PORTABLE PIER Stability Question

    Hi,

I am looking at upgrading my mount system to a MEII. The mount will be supporting a Planewave 12.5 (about 50 lbs). We need to use a portable pier (even though the system will not be moved from inside the observatory) and the pier height needs to be about 54". I am considering the Pyramid Portable pier with three 6" extenders to reach the required height. I am wondering about the stability for supporting and imaging with this setup. any advice or concerns would be appreciated.
