PORTING THESKYX'S SETTINGS

ISSUE

TheSkyX's personalized settings can be moved or duplicated to a different user account or edition of TheSkyX on the same computer, or to a different computer or operating system. However, simply placing a copy of the settings at the new location won't necessarily result in TheSkyX being able to utilize all of those settings. If the new location is on the same computer as the original, it is possible that the settings will be fully utilized, yet split between the two locations.

RESOLUTION

This discussion refers extensively to TheSkyX's Application Support Files (ASF) folder. Note that this is a description of the folder, not its name!...follow the link for details.

There are several files in the ASF folder that store path definitions to files or folders. Copying or moving these configuration files to a different location will typically result in invalidating the path definitions they contain. (When restoring from a backup, the path definitions are valid if the files are restored to their original location.) While TheSkyX can operate with invalid path definitions, it will substitute default settings for any that it can't locate.

Under these circumstances, a user can inform TheSkyX of the files' new locations by manually editing the following configuration files to revise any path definitions they contain:

  • AppSettings.ini
Includes, among others, your serial number(s) and the path definition for the last-used TPoint settings file.
  • Imaging System Profiles\ImagingSystem.ini

Includes, among others, the path definitions for the Camera Add On's AutoSave folder(s), if applicable.
  • LastDocument.ini

Alternatively use the File, Open command to choose a desired .SKYX document, automatically updating this file.

Here's how to edit the files:

AppSettings.ini

  1. If running, close TheSkyX.
  2. Navigate to your ASF folder, then locate and rename the "AppSettings.ini" file to something like "AppSettings backup.ini".
  3. Open this file in a text editor, such as Notepad.
  4. If you've changed editions of TheSkyX, or otherwise need to change your serial number(s), look for lines that include the phrase "SerialNumber" and replace the value after the equals sign with your new serial number(s) for the corresponding software/add on.
  5. Look for lines that include the phrase "Path" and, where necessary, revise the value after the equals sign to the correct location.
  6. Save the modified contents as a new file named "AppSettings.ini" (without quotes, and in the same folder).
  7. If you changed your serial number in step 4, launch TheSkyX to verify your serial number information using the About TheSkyX command from the Help menu (Windows) or TheSkyX menu (macOS).

Imaging System Profile\ImagingSystem.ini

  1. If running, close TheSkyX.
  2. Navigate to the Imaging System Profile sub-folder of your ASF folder, then locate and rename the "ImagingSystem.ini" file to something like "ImagingSystem backup.ini".
  3. Open this file in a text editor, such as Notepad.
  4. Look for lines that include the phrase "Path" and, where necessary, revise the value after the equals sign to the correct location.
  5. Save the modified contents as a new file named "ImagingSystem.ini" (without quotes, and in the same folder).
LastDocument.ini
  1. Launch TheSkyX.
  2. Use the File, Open command to choose a desired .SKYX document.
  3. The "LastDocument.ini" file should automatically be updated when TheSkyX is closed.

Tips:

  • If moving between computers of very different display pixel densities, the appearance of TheSkyX's toolbars and windows might look different. On Windows this can be addressed using the text magnification setting (under Windows' Settings > System > Display), and/or by adjusting TheSkyX's Toolbar Button Options on the Toolbar tab of the Preferences window.

Starlight focuser setup

I have Sky X Pro with the camera addon demo, for now (if I get everything working together I will purchase it).  I have the Boss II set up running an HSM30 (1.04 microns/step) and an HSM 20 (1.3 microns/step).  I am coming from Maxim DL, where do I set up the step size?  I tried to follow the .pdf Sky X manual and it has pages and menus that I do not see.  It talks about large step and small step size, but I do not have those menus.  Thoroughly confused.  I tried to run it as is and it did not work, at all and I switched back to Maxim DL.  I am wanting to use one software package for everything (telescope, camera and focuser control) that is why I am looking at Sky X.

I am trying to install my version of Serious Astronomer on my new PC.

I get a message access denied. I go to the registration area and it says my product number is already registered (I seem to be registered twice with two slightly different codes). I return to the site and get the message Access denied again. And so it goes round and round. I am not trying to upgrade just install my old version. Can you tell me what to do.

Thanks.   Adrian

Latest Sky Pro for Mac and SBIG USB drivers

I have just purchased the latest Sky Pro for Mac - macOS Sierra version 10.12.2.

The main program runs well as expected. The issue I have is that before I can use it fully, it turns out that there seams to be a lot of issues with Apple Mac and the SBIG drivers.  Whilst I appreciate that the camera drivers are not supplied by S Bisque [I assume] the Sky camera plugin is meant to natively support most of the SBIG USB Cameras.

When I plug the SBIG Camera in, a ST-2000 XCM USB/A07, fundamentally nothing happens.  Under mac USB tree, the device is listed as a third party vendor device, but the camera does not boot up nor does the Sky connect to it.

Reading around it appears that the sbig drivers are not signed, so they don't load.

Bottom line is there an easy way to get the camera running under the latest OS.

Issues with camera add on time out

I am a new user, but have been imaging successfully previously with Nebulosity and PHD2 with no issues (I can image all night with no failures).  However, without changing the connection topology, I frequently get the following timeout error in TSX:

"Receive time-out.  Error=209"

This occurs when imaging a series and when it happens the series stops.

My configuration is

TSX 10.5.0

MacOS 10.12.4

Macbook Pro  16BG RAM, 1TB SSD

Celestron AVX mount, StarSense HC (USB)

ZWO ASI071MC

SX Loadstar

Moonlite CR focuser+rotator

Suggestions on how to resolve?  Note the timeout also happens from time to time when taking a single pic as well.

TheSkyX Serious Astronomer 2017 Subscription Renewal

Hello Software Bisque:

I updated my Software Bisque version to TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition in 2012 (Serial Number {redacted}).  I have consistently renewed my subscription to the software every year, always following receipt of an e-mail form you reminding me that it is time to do so (per directions provided on your website which read, "The subscription renewal is not automatic.  You will be notified by email when your product subscription is about to expire."

As of today however, I have not received such and e-mail and am wondering if: 1) you are still doing software subscription renewals and 2) if so, whether I can renew without a penalty, since today's date is nearly a month after I renewed last year?  I truly would like to keep my subscription going if this is possible.  Finally, if subscription renewal is still possible, is the renewal rate still #30.00?  I await your reply.

problem downloading TheSkyX Pro

Dear Sir or Madam.

I have made 5 failed attempts over the last few hours to download the full install for the SkyX Pro for OS X tonight. This is not the first time I have had the same trouble with SB downloads. I get into the download anywhere from 300 MB to 500 MB and then the download speed falls to 0 kB/s, and remains there. One time I waited 45 min, and no activity. I do have a disk and box coming later this week. Unfortunately, I wanted to try it tonight.  My normal max download speed is about 1.5 MB/s, and when I download things like a full TeX distribution (≈ 2.3 GB) it works perfectly.

I welcome your suggestions.

Hi,

I am using Mac Sierra, The SKY X pro w/ Camera add-on and SBIG STL11000.

I recent rebuilt my MAC and I can't get the SKY pro to see the Camera, it keeps return error "SBIG driver not found Error 30027".

I dot remember installation drivers before, is there something specific I have to do to make it work?

Thanks

Are we allowed to install SkyX pro on 2 machines?

I have a primary workstation remote from the observatory, and a laptop in the observatory.

I would like to be able to peruse on my workstation, before connecting to the laptop. The laptop runs the observatory.

Is there any licensing issues with 2 copies on my 2 machines?

TheSkyX Feature Question/Request

$

Hope this is the correct forum for this

I was wondering if it would be possible to add the calculated FL and F/R to Image Link output.

I realize its not a thing used everyday but think it would be a nice feature

I'll manually use this to do it

[Focal Length in mm] = (206.2648 x [Pixel Size in µm]) / ([Arcseconds Per Pixel/Bin Value])

Pixel Size and Bin Value should be in the FITS file and you calculate the Arcseconds per pixel already

then F/R is easy from there

Focal Ratio = focal length / aperture which again you have in the FITS file

just be kind of nice to have the effect FL and F/R calculated.

Thank you for considering it (or if it's there point me to where it is?)

Sandra
