Bisque TCS, vintage 2005

Friends,

I installed the Bisque TCS on a custom-made Springfield Mount telescope in 2005 -06, on Maui, HI. See:  https://alaskaappliedsciences.com/big-blue-telescope/

We did not operate it under the sky, but only enough to validate basic operations after installing the hardware and motors on the Big Blue telescope, which had been in service on the roof of the Hyatt Regency Maui resort hotel since ~ 1991.

We shipped the disassembled, crated telescope to Socorro, NM, where it has reposed in its crate since.

I will be in Socorro Dec 7-9 to assemble Big Blue indoors on a wood pallet, and hope to find the Bisque TCS working.  Is it supported by Software Bisque now ?  If not, does someone else have experience with it, to help us if we're stuck ?

Thanks very much

Hello, I have been using THE SKY since 1990, and now that I am retired I have got back into telescopes I am looking for some software. I currently have THE SKY version 5 level IV, that is registered, and I know it is no longer used. I am looking to upgrade to SKY X Serious in the download version. My question is can I use the download on my laptop that will control my telescope, and my pc in my office for casual use and to set up my next outing. Thanks for your time and all your great products.

Two issues...

I have a new MX+ mount that has what I think is a loose connection to the DEC motor. It doesn't happen all the time but on some initial power ups the motor will not connect or it will but will stop working in the middle of a slew. When I remove the cable access plate that's above the counter weight shaft, there are two white cables that run up toward the versa plate. I give them a wiggle and the motor will reconnect. I don't know if they are the actual culprit or maybe they are connected to something else? I don't want to start taking things apart without knowing what to look for.

#2- TSX

I am not able to connect the mount to any kind of software other than TSX. As much as I like the software I'd like to be able to step outside the Bisque box and use my other programs like Maxim DL 6 but I get nothing but error messages. I apologize, I cant remember the messages but it doesn't matter what program I try, nothing will connect. I have a Tak EM400 mount that I've been trying to connect to TSX but it doesn't let anything in either. My PC runs Windows 10 pro

TPOINT UNSUPPORTED FILENAME CHARACTERS

ISSUE

The TPoint Add On to TheSkyX Professional Edition may report an error whose true cause is difficult to determine.

RESOLUTION

It is possible that the problem is caused by the use of one or more double-byte, invalid or abnormal characters in a file definition (path and file name).

The TPoint Add On to TheSkyX Professional Edition incorporates file I/O (input/output) routines that currently only support single-byte character sets (e.g. ASCII, Windows-1252). If these routines encounter a file reference that includes one or more double-byte characters (e.g. Ā ؾ 汉), an error will be reported, though the exact error number and description will depend upon—and be related to—what TPoint was doing at the time. The error message may therefore insinuate a false cause, such as Error 251 "Object too low", be vague, such as Error 205 "Command failed", or be pretty clear, such as Error 702 "Unable to open file" (even when the file is not absent, corrupted or read-only).

An error can also occur if the file reference includes certain characters considered invalid (e.g. / \ ? % * : | " < >) or otherwise not normally used in paths or file names (e.g. ' apostrophe).

To check if this is the cause of the problem, examine all characters of the TPoint data file (.DAT and .TPTX) name(s), and path. If you're unsure whether a character is single- or double-byte, you can check it using this online ASCII to Decimal converter (copy the character and paste it into the "ascii" box). If a single decimal value is given in the "decimal" box (e.g. "122"), the character is single byte; if a pair of decimal values is given (e.g. "195 165"), the character is double byte.

If you find that one or more characters is double-byte, or an invalid/abnormal character is used in the path or file name, you'll either need to change that character so that TPoint can accept it, or relocate the TPoint data file(s) to a different location whose path doesn't include such a character.

Tips:

  • While TPoint data files, by default, are placed in the TPoint sub-folder of TheSkyX's Application Support Files (ASF) folder (this is a description of the folder, not its name!...follow the link for details), you may open them from, or save them to, any valid location you choose.
  • If an offending character is in the user's name, you can either change the account name or, as mentioned above, relocate the TPoint data file(s) to a path that doesn't include the user's name.

Missing Cable from Recent MKS 5000 Upgrade

Hello.

I began the upgrade process to the MKS 5000 (which I received just recently).  According to the Bill of Materials, there should be "Through mount USB cables (2)".  I only received one (1).

Can someone get back to me and send the second missing through mount USB cable?

Thank you.

MX+ and SP Pier Measurements

My apologies for posting this again in Pre-Sales forum but I've not received any response on the MX Forum.  Since it is a pre-sale question it probably belongs here instead.  Feel fee to delete my post on the other forum.

I'm upgrading my pier and mount to the MX+ which was delivered today.  But I need some measurements to finalize which size of pier to order.

The MX Basic Dimension pdf gives measurements for different altitudes, but the Height X is not defined on the drawing as far as I can tell.

Is Height X suppose to be the measurement from the highest point on the Versa plate to the lowest end of the counterweight shaft?

On the dedicated ME website, in Piers>Existing/Custom Piers, the ME is shown at different elevations on an 11" pier.  So I can order the correct height pier for the I need a similar measurement for 40° for the MX+, with or without a pier.

Lastly, for now, what is the distance from the centerpoint of the counterweight shaft at 90° i.e. parallel to the ground.  Again, with or without a pier.

With these measurements, I should be able to figure out the correct height of pier to give me comfortable clearance for my equipment when pointed vertically at the meridian.

Thanks for the help.

I currently own TheSky 6 Professional and am thinking of upgrading to the X Prof version. However, I can not seem to find the annual subscription price anywhere?

I have an LX200GPS and use a CCD camera. I do not have a dome nor do I use t-point.

Is there a page that breaks down the renewal cost and ad-ons anywhere?

Thank you.

I purchased a telescope package and SBIG an ST237 and a laptop with CCDSoft loaded was included with the purchase. I do not have a backup copy of the CCDSoft and the laptop is sounding weird. I attempted to download a copy but I get Access is denied. I have the serial number for the software and the camera if that would help.

Thanks

Registering MKS-3200 based Paramount ME for software download

I would like to download the MKS serial port utility at

http://www.bisque.com/sc/media/p/40227.aspx

however I do not have permission. I have registered my TheSky6 serial number with the Bisque technical support system. The Paramount ME hardware that I have does not appear to have a magic hardware serial number on it. There is a sticker with the motor index values but not serial number.

What magic incantation do I need to locate to feed into the website so that it will divulge the serial utility?

Thanks,

I wish to upgrade my Sky6 Professional.  Recently bought a new laptop with W10 and Sky6 does not work satisfactorily.  Status bar not showing and task bar is on several lines, only 3 tasks selected.

How much does an upgrade cost?  How many computers can I have it on?

I have been using The Sky thru DOS and Sky 5 and would like to continue.

Hi there

will you be releasing a 64 bit version of TheSkyX soon? I'm trying to develop a dome controller using X2 and under Mojave, I can't compile anything successfully using the i386 architecture with xcode under Mojave.

Apple say they will be dropping 32 bit support from next year.

thanks Dominic

Interested in a trial of the standalone TPoint software

$

Hello,

I am working on an Az,El telescope application where we already have software to point at and track stars, and we are saving out all the RA,DEC, Az/El encoder positions, and all data that would be needed to fit a telescope pointing model. I am interested in trying out the TPoint modelling approach by plugging our gathered data into the software and then experimenting with the model it generates.

I think for this application I would want the standalone version of TPoint, even though it is now unsupported:

http://www.bisque.com/sc/media/p/27940.aspx

I would also be open to trying 'thesky' software with the latest TPoint modelling, as long as there is some way to use the TPoint part separately by feeding in our previously gathered star data.

Please let me know if it is possible for me to get a trial of the standalone TPoint software, or possibly a trial of the 'TheSky' with the TPoint add-on if you would recommend it for my application.

Thanks,

Brian

What version to purchase - Mac AND Pc

Dear Presales support,

broswing your website and many options, I cannot figure out what option works best for me.

I have 2 computers I would keep using for astrophotography, one new MacBook Pro and my old Windows7 PC.

I would like to buy the SkyX software and be able to run it on both systems. As I am not also very sure which computer I will mainly use in future, I am not really able to choose right now which version to purchase.

I found an Addon for multi Licence versions. Is this what I need? With this Add On, I understand I can install on both my PC and Mac the software, correct? And this is an extra 140$ on top of the software price, correct?

Can I purchase this add on later on after I purchase the SKYX sw? let us say I first purchase the MAC version, then later purchase this Addon so I can also install on my PC?

Other question please: I am not sure which version I should buy. My needs are for Astrophotography and Autoguiding (Celestron Advanced VS and 800 EdgeHD), Autoguiding through OAG and Guidescope, CCD Zwo ASI294MC Pro and Canon EOS1200D, With and without Hyperstar.

Your advices would be appreciated,

Many thanks, Jean-Paul
