Thinking of purchasing The Sky X Pro (to sort wayward EM400)

Hi everyone

Long term Mac user (work in graphics).

2.3GHz Intel Core i7 Apple MacBook, running OSX 10.8.5

Mount Takahashi EM400 Temma 2 (not newer M)

Not permanent, instead mount rides on a purpose built 'scopebuggy'.
Currently trying to use (after a three year break), Equinox Pro (Mount control), Equinox Image (for SBIG STF 8300M/FSQ106ED +FR), PHD2 for an original Lodestar/Skywatcher ST80.
I *think*, my current issues may be with the mount's hand control unit somehow changing the guide rates. One of the PHD2 devs looked at my calibration data and came back to me saying that the software recorded I was trying to guide at 1.75 and then - after a second calibration at 1.5x sidereal rates - hence why my guiding was pretty appalling!
I know that particular  presses on the simple hand control unit can change independently the RA and DEC rates (from what should be 0.9x default on power up), but as there is no read out, it is very difficult to check what the mount is doing.
So, does The Sky X offer a readout display of the RA and DEC guide speeds to check what the mount is doing...? Is there also the facility to manually change these rates/reset them in case there are changes made by mistake...?
The only reason I use the hand control is to adjust a star in my finder so that I can update the simple GoTo 'Sync' on a star for my current mount control software - the now defunct, 'Equinox Pro', before I slew to my imaging target...
Perhaps I've ben out of it so long that The Sky X offers better solutions so that I could remove the hand unit altogether and update the GoTo/Star Sync a better way...?
Any help and advice pre-purchase (link to a movie, etc), would be of great help.
Regards,
Damian
